Syracuse Booking Reports

Syracuse booking reports are generated at the Onondaga County Justice Center, where most people arrested in the city get processed. The Syracuse Police Department handles arrests within city limits, but once someone enters the county jail, Onondaga County takes over the booking records. You can search for these records through the Sheriff's Office, file a FOIL request, or use several state-level databases. The Onondaga County Clerk also keeps court records tied to Syracuse arrests. If you need a specific booking report, start with the county Sheriff's Office for the most direct route.

Anyone can file a FOIL request.

Write your request. Include the person's full name and date of birth if known. Give the approximate date of arrest. Send it to the Records Access Officer at the agency that has the records you need. The agency has five business days to respond under the law. Copies cost $0.25 per page. If the request takes longer than normal, they must send you an acknowledgment with an estimated date.

Some records are exempt from FOIL. Sealed records under CPL 160.50 will not be released. Records that would reveal investigative techniques or endanger someone can be withheld. The Committee on Open Government is the state office that oversees FOIL. They can answer questions about your rights.
