Seneca County booking reports are maintained by the Sheriff's Office in Waterloo. This Finger Lakes county has about 34,000 residents and a jail with a capacity of around 60 inmates. When someone is arrested here, the booking report is created at the county jail. You can get copies of these records through a FOIL request or by visiting the Sheriff's Office in person. All arrests in the county are processed here. The booking report captures the person's name, date of birth, charges, bail amount, arresting officer, and the date and time of the arrest. These records are maintained at the Sheriff's Office. To get a copy, submit a FOIL request to the Records Access Officer. Write out what you need and include the person's name and arrest date. The office must respond within five business days under Public Officers Law Sections 84 through 90.

Seneca County Court Records and Arrests

The Seneca County Clerk's Office keeps court records from Supreme and County Court proceedings. The Clerk is in Waterloo. Criminal case records filed here include dispositions, sentencing information, and judgments. These supplement the booking reports held by the Sheriff.

FOIL and Seneca County Booking Reports Access

New York's Freedom of Information Law lets anyone request booking reports and other public records from Seneca County. FOIL is in Public Officers Law Article 6, Sections 84 through 90. You do not have to give a reason for your request. The Committee on Open Government advises on FOIL issues.

If your request is denied, you have 30 days to appeal. Some records can be withheld if they would endanger someone or reveal investigative methods. The DCJS maintains separate fingerprint-based criminal history records that are not available through FOIL. New York's Clean Slate Act, effective November 16, 2024, will automatically seal certain eligible conviction records over the coming years.
