Orange County Sheriff's Office Booking Reports

The Orange County Sheriff's Office runs the correctional facility and processes all bookings for the county. The jail is in Goshen. When someone gets arrested by any law enforcement agency in Orange County, they are taken to this facility. A booking report is created at intake with the person's name, charges, arresting officer, bail amount, and arrest date.

Orange County has a population over 400,000. It is one of the larger counties in the Hudson Valley. The jail handles a significant volume of bookings from places like Newburgh, Middletown, and the town of Ramapo. Pretrial detainees and people sentenced to one year or less stay at the county facility. Those with longer sentences go to state prison through DOCCS.

Request copies of booking reports through a FOIL request to the Sheriff's Office. Put the request in writing. Include the person's name, any identifying details, and the date of the arrest. The agency has five business days to respond under Public Officers Law Sections 84 through 90.

The VINELink system is free and runs around the clock. It covers the Orange County Correctional Facility. Search by name to check custody status and facility location. You do not need an account for basic searches. If you register, VINE sends automatic alerts when the inmate's status changes. Alerts go by phone, email, or text. The system updates frequently throughout the day.

For state prison records, use the DOCCS Incarcerated Lookup. It shows everyone in the state's 44 correctional facilities since the early 1970s. Search by last name or DIN. Youthful offenders do not appear. Certain non-violent offenders are removed five years after completing their sentence under Correction Law Section 9.

Orange County Booking Reports and FOIL

The Freedom of Information Law applies to all government agencies in New York. This means the Orange County Sheriff's Office must respond to written requests for booking reports. FOIL is in Article 6 of the Public Officers Law. You do not need to give a reason for your request. Anyone can ask.

Be specific in what you request. Names, dates, and case numbers help the agency find records faster. Copies cost $0.25 per page for standard sizes. No fee to inspect records in person. If your request gets denied, the Committee on Open Government can provide guidance. You have 30 days to appeal a denial. Some records may be partially redacted if they contain information that would endanger someone or reveal investigative techniques.

The Personal Privacy Protection Law, Article 6-A, also limits disclosure in some cases. But basic booking data like name, charges, and arrest details is generally accessible to the public under FOIL.
